Our Grand Prize Contest

If your pirate is a Buccaneer,
Kobe Yojimbo (a Bull Ronin) is your starter companion.
He’s based on a famous fictional character.

Tell us who he is and what he does (as a job).

Seems this was a tough Trivia question for some. Remember this contest is for the Grand Prize, we had to make it a little difficult. But if you did a little research, you found the correct answer. And many of you did.

yojimboIf you’ve played our trivia games before, you know there are clues in our question to discover the right answer. Match up the clue with the possible answers and you should be able to discover which possible result would be the correct answer.

What we were looking for: Yojimbo is a Ronin hired as a bodyguard in the Japanese film “Yojimbo”.

Yojimbo is a 1961 jidaigeki (period drama) film directed by Akira Kurosawa. It tells the story of a ronin, portrayed by Toshiro Mifune, who arrives in a small town where competing crime lords vie for supremacy. The two bosses each try to hire the deadly newcomer as a bodyguard (yojimbo in Japanese). Learn more on Wikipedia.

The movie has been remade several times, one of the most infamous has to be “A Fist Full of Dollars” staring Clint Eastwood. And the character has influenced many unsuspecting characters since it’s release.

Many of you pointed to the Rabbit Ronin in a comic book series “Usagi Yojimbo” created by Stan Saka (click that link for more on Wikipedia). Usagi has also appeared several times in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Usagi Yojimbo is said to be based on the real life Japanese swordsman named Miyamoto Musashi (1584 – 1645) (you can click that link to find him on Wikipedia). Saka didn’t begin his comic book series until the 1980s. So this was close, but not the answer we were looking for. But because so many of you picked this one, we decided it was close enough to what we were looking for that we decided to accept it too.

We received 30 emails and of those 21 provided the correct answer. Here at the Portal we randomly selected two numbers, then counted through the correct answers in the order in which they were received and those were our two winners. We picked the 3rd and 9th emails.

Congratulations to our two Captains Who Submitted The Correct Answers!!
We’ve sent you an email with your game code and instructions for how to redeem the code online.
If you don’t receive the email or have problems, please let us know.
