As you work your way through quests in the game, you’ll be able to unlock new companions in the Crown Shop. The Badge “Best Chum” unlocks the purchase availability for your own version of Fin Dorsal. I love him. He’s my favorite character in the game.

When you first meet Fin he is a Cutthroat Pirate. You can learn much more about his abilities and skills from Pirate101 Central.

As you level up your companions they will occasionally reach epic promotion opportunities. Those companions that you purchase from the Crown Shop are easy to promote, you simply have to pay a promotion fee with Gold. Fin’s first epic promotion occurs when he is promoted to Level 24.

After you applied training points and he reaches this level, he’ll tell you he needs to speak with you. Let’s go to a nearby Tavern so you can talk.

In the Tavern you’ll be asked if you want to purchase the promotion. Fin’s promotion is 2,600 pieces of gold. If you’ve got it, promote him.

He’ll still be a Cutthroat Pirate, unlike quest companions who change their title. But he does change his cloths and he’ll move up to a Level 25 Cutthroat. Or in my case level 27, because I was busy questing.
