pirate-gold/crownsCongratulations To Our Prize Winners!

It’s that time! Time to announce our round of Game Code Prize Winners for the 2014 Arrgust in the Spiral Celebrations!

Tonight’s Grand Prize contest received a game code good for:   10,000 Crowns.

Selecting tonight’s winner took a little more time than usual. But we made our selection and we’re happy to announce our winner!

Our Round 2 – Trivia Question!

In Mooshu you run into a whole lot of folks who claim
to be part of the Yakoozai. A band of thieves and generally
bad critters. But who claim to be nice, and act as peace keepers.
The head of their “family” is Oyabun Shingen who
is based on a comic book character.

Name the comic book character,
the comic book and what’s #1 difference between
the Pirate Oyabun Shingen and the Comic Book Character.

You must provide all 3 answers to be entered in the Grand Prize.
This isn’t meant to be easy. But if you pay attention to the clues; you can find the answers online.

The Correct Answer!

If you simply Googled “Oyabun Shingen”
you probably saw a couple of results that looked like this:

Mariko_Yashida

Mariko Yashida

Did you notice Mariko Yashida, the daughter of Shingen Yashida.
She took over the Yakuza crime family and became its leader, the Oyabun.

That was a big clue right there. If you clicked on that Wikipedia link, you’d find out that she first appears in Marvel Comics X-Men series. And specifically in the #118th edition from February 1979. The issue is entitled “Uncanny X-Men”.

And the big difference between Mariko Yashida and Pirates Shingen Oyabun? Well She’s a She and he’s not.

She first met the X-Men when they returned from a sojourn in the Savage Land and were asked to help Japan, which was being blackmailed by the terrorist Moses Magnum.

Afterward, Mariko was later used by her father as a secondary motivation to maneuver Wolverine into participating in an assassination of a rival by having the superhero inadvertently provide a distraction while protecting his true love/girlfriend from the rival’s own assassins. This also had the intended effect of deepening Mariko’s disgust for Logan upon witnessing him going berserk in battle, albeit in defense of her. ~ Read the full article on Wikipedia.

Nearly everyone answer X-Men/Wolverine for the comic book. Many of you submitted the character was Shingen Yashida, or Lord Shingen. And the difference is the Pirate101 Boss is a Yak and the Comic Boss is a Human. Though that wasn’t the answer we were looking for, we debated about allow those answers, because it could be either Mariko Yashida or her father Shingen Yashida.

What took us a little extra time:
We received a 36 Entries. Of those, 22 provided the answer we were looking for or the answer of Shingen Yashida. Of those 22, 10 provided the answer of Mariko Yashida. Our youngest judge said “It’s not fair to the 10 who got the right answer, to have to decrease their chance of winning in half”. Good point. So we followed his judgement and selected the winner from the 10 Captains who submitted the answer we were originally looking for. Of those 10 correct answers, we randomly selected 1 email in the order received as the Grand Prize winner. Our young Pirate Captain selected his favorite – #3.

Congratulations to the Captain
