KingsIsle Has Been Sold

KingsIsle Acquisition

On January 18, 2021 KingsIsle announced on their business blog that they had entered into an agreement with Gamigo. for the acquisition of Wizard101 and Pirate101. Gamigo’s official title: Media and Games Invest PLC, is a digital integrated games and media company with a main operational presence in Europe and North America. They purchased KI for $126m USD, plus earn-outs.

That’s all fine and good, but what does that mean for Pirates of the Spiral?

In KI’s announcement they stated “let me assure you that the friendly faces that you’ve come to know and love aren’t changing and we’re full steam ahead on the next updates and laying the foundation for the year to come.”

On January 22, 2021 KI updated their announcement to address some rumors going around. Stating that “there are no plans for Wizard101 or Pirate101 to go entirely Free to Play because of this. We’re sticking with our current model for the foreseeable future.”

They stated that there’s a lot in the works to merge KI into Gamigo, but their plans for updates is still being supported for now. They also have some things in the works for upgrades. “One of those ideas is to have more regular updates to Pirate101. I’m excited about the possibilities but this is something that will take some planning and coordination with Gamigo (and, frankly, more developers than we have now) to make happen.”

I’m sure the pandemic has impacted KI just as it has everyone else in the world. The company is located in Texas and they sure have their fair share of issues over the Covid-19 lock down and the severe winter storms that hit state.

Right now, the most we Pirates can do, is to be patient.
