Quest Journal – The Tower of Moo Manchu

The Tower of Moo Manchu

The Tower Battle of Agony

By far this quest is the hardest in all the spiral, at least as of this writing. There are 10 levels to get through, 9 of which have bad guys. And of course the top-level is where you find the biggest bad guy of all, Moo Manchu and his toughest minions. Most of the minions throughout the tower are level 55 and up. Moo Manchu himself, is level 65.

These are not easy battles and I have yet to get through the entire tower in less than 2 hours. Yes, I said 2 hours. That’s if all the players in the team are level 65 and up. There’s a reason most gamers suggest not taking on the Tower unless you’re over level 60, and some suggest waiting until level 65. More on that later in the team up.

But the gold you can accumulate in the tower, is staggering! With 4 players, you can find 150,000 to 200,000 pieces of gold. Or more, depending on how many Treasure Bath doubloons you and your team can drop during a battle. And then there’s the coveted badges! More on that later.

First, you have to find the quest, as it’s not part of the main quests through MooShu. And there are quests that you’ll have to complete first. Starting with the Manchurian Candidate and ending with defeating Moo Manchu in the Tomb of Kow Cheng.

Companion Promotion – Gaspard de Vole

Gaspard de Vole Guinea Pig Guard

Gaspard de Vole
Guinea Pig Guard

The Guinea Pig Guard Companion

If your parents were captured by the Armada, you will discover an old family friend along your travels through the Skull Island Skyway.

You can visit our Companion Guide to find a list of all the companions available to each Pirate class within the game. Or return to our Epic Promotion guides for Pirate101 Companions.

When you first meet Gaspard he is imprisoned in the Monquistan Spice fortress known as The Presidio. He becomes a member of your crew, with the blessing of the Frog Father, as a Guinea Pig Guard.  You can learn much more about his abilities and skills from Pirate101 Central.

As you level up your companions they will occasionally reach epic promotion opportunities. Gaspard’s first epic promotion occurs when he is promoted to Level 21.

After you applied training points and he reaches this level, he’ll tell you he needs to speak with you. “I have just gotten word – Alonzo, my first Captain, he needs my help! Let’s talk in a Tavern!

Find the nearest tavern and hear his tale. He will explain that he served on Alonzo’s crew for many years, searching for a legendary treasure known as the Golden Frond. Which is a Holy relic from Monquista. If you help Gaspard to help his old friend, you will be cut in for a share of treasure. To begin your journey, you’ll head off to Scrimshaw and visit the barkeep at the Hole in the Wall Tavern. So get sailing.

This quest will require you to have access to Monquista.

Extra Tribal Pack Winners!!

Captian Victoria Stuart and her Hunting Puma

Captain Victoria Stuart
and her Hunting Puma

We Had Extra Codes!

We had a little issue with one of our original game codes and contacted One-Eyed Jack to resolve the issue. Not only did Jack help us with the problem; he scavenged a couple of extra codes for us, in case it happened again! He’s so awesome!

We want to send out a BIG Thank You Jack! For your help and especially for your generosity! There’s a lot of our “A Pirate’s Portal”  fans who really appreciate it! Not to mention we LOVE these contests. This is only our 2nd give away; but it is so much fun for our entire family to be able to give away prizes to our visitors and other fans of Pirate101!!

We wanted to surprise some of our contestants who entered our Tribal Pack contest throughout the week by giving them one of these extra left over codes. We picked them at random, except one.

We decided to use one of those codes for a Day 4 entry we mentioned on our winners announcement. Our question that day was:
When you first enter the game and create your pirate character, What is the 1st thing Boochbeard says?

We posted an honorable mention to Captain James Derevaux; who gave us the most complete answer:
“Get down, she’s gonna blow. *BOOM* *cough cough* it’s one of these prisoners *cough* check the ones down there monkey.”

We wanted to acknowledge the extra effort and awarded the first of the extra codes to him. Captain James received some great gifts from his Tribal pack: A Hunting Puma mount, a Scrimshaw Drake pet (named Coco), 3 companion training tombs and some cool stuff for his dorm room.

Answer me this:
Do you know your Pirate101 History? If you do, you can answer this question with ease.
Who is the leader of the Clockworks?

The Golden Age Of Piracy
Have you read about the State of Piracy in the Spiral? The tale contains the history of pirating upon the skyways. It is a wondrous time of exploration and adventure, when tall ships fly the endless skies and brave the Stormgates of the Spiral. Trade and commerce sprang up all over the Spiral, and many nations learned that the size and strength of their fleets were the key to their destiny. Marleybone, Valencia, Monquista, and Polaris emerged as the dominant powers of the era, forming colonies and forging trade routes that made them wealthy and powerful. Grizzleheim and many other realms, tried to stay neutral, trading with all and claiming no empire.

Competing colonial interests led to tension between the great powers, and then to war. Polaris, led by Emperor Napoleguin, launched a great war against Marleybone, Valencia, and Monquista. Napoleguin’s military genius and strong navy brought the Spiral to its knees – his victory seemed assured, but Marleybone’s staunch resolve and Valencia’s new clockwork Armada finally defeated him.

In the aftermath, Pirates flourished in the outer reaches of the Spiral, where the colonial powers spread their forces thinner and thinner. In Skull Island, gangs of Pirates took control of entire Skyways, building their own ports and cities and launching daring raids in every corner of the Spiral.

The Armada continues to rise. The Clockworks are supposed to be the military of the Valencian monarchy, but many are beginning to wonder if the Clockworks and their leader, Kane, don’t have an agenda of their own.

It’s 5 chances to win exciting and wonderful prizes from the packs! With a special code like that; we had to make the contest question a little special.

Answer Me This:
Captain Avery is based on a real life Captain, who pirated the Atlantic and Indian Oceans. What was his “real” name?

Henry Every
Also known as Evory or Avery and sometimes erroneously known as John Avery. He was an English pirate who operated in the Atlantic and Indian Oceans in the mid-1690s. He likely used several aliases throughout his career, including Henry Bridgeman, and was known as Long Ben to his crewmen and associates.

Dubbed “The Arch Pirate” and “The King of Pirates” by contemporaries, Every was the most notorious pirate of his time; he earned his infamy by becoming one of the few major pirate captains to retire with his loot without being arrested or killed in battle, and also for being the perpetrator of what has been called the most profitable pirate raid in history.

You can learn a lot more about the inspiration for Pirate101’s Captain Avery. Reading a little about the real man, gives some good “behind the story” insight of our Captain Avery on Skull Island. You can read more about Captain Henry Every on Wikipedia!
