Aquila and Marleybone Enter The Spiral!

Downtime Notice: Live Realm Updates!

We have exciting news for Pirate101 fans!

Marleybone and Aquila enter the spiral Thursday Morning! Yeah!!!!!

One-Eyed Jack sent out a notice this evening to let us know that the game will have some downtime while the updates are applied to the live realm.

The Pirate101 game and website will be offline early Thursday morning (05/23/2013) for approximately two hours from 3:00 – 5:00 am US Central as we bring Marleybone, Aquila, and several game enhancements to The Spiral!

The Test Realm will also be making its departure at the same time until the next major update is applied to the game.

For sure want to check those final update notes tomorrow morning for a short list of new Crown Shop items being released with this update. (There are a couple really cool mounts that I think everyone is going to love!)

Companion Promotion – Subodai

The Swashbuckler’s Horse Companion

If you choose a Swashbuckler as your pirate class, the first person you meet on your way out of the stockade will be Subodai. Like you he was captured by the Armada and locked in the brig below decks.

You can visit our Companion Guide to find a list of all the companions available to each Pirate class within the game. Or return to our Epic Promotion guides for Pirate101 Companions.

When you first meet Subodai he is a Horse Barbarian. You can learn much more about his abilities and skills from Pirate101 Central.

As you level up your companions they will occasionally reach epic promotion opportunities. Subodai’s first epic promotion occurs when he is promoted to Level 13.

After you applied training points and he reaches this level, he’ll tell you he needs to speak with you. Let’s go to a nearby Tavern so you can talk.

In the Tavern he’ll tell you “Captain, the time has come for me to prove myself. I must earn my warrior’s Plume. The spirits of my ancestors must guide me. ”

He will further explain “The first thing I need are talons from Birds of Prey – at home I would use Falons, but Scarakeets should do.” This dialog will give you a new quest: A Fistful of Feathers.

This quest will require you to have access to Monquista.

Questing News From The Spiral

It’s been a tough journey for the crew and I. We’re beat up, banged up and immensely glad to be back in Skull Island for some much needed rest and relaxation before we had off to Cool Ranch!

After we acquired the Monkey’s Paw we returned to Puerto Mico and finished our business with the trading treaty for Captain Avery. Little did we know that during our absence someone had been spreading rumors about the crew and I while we were in Monquista. Now we seem to be in some kind of extra danger we didn’t need!

AARP Highlights Wizard101!

Beneficial Games For The 50+ Crowd

AARP highlights Wizard101 in a new article concerning the Benefits of Multiplayer Games for adults. What we players know as MMOs.

Being one of those in the 50+ set I can relate to the article of course.

“Two associate professors in the Department of Communication at Trinity University in San Antonio, Aaron Delwiche and Jennifer Jacobs Henderson, who is also the department chair, recently completed a study where they obtained information from over 32,000 users of the free online multiplayer game Wizard101. The users ranged in age from 5 to 95 years old. As far as studies go, that makes it one of the largest gaming studies ever.”

The article also mentions Pirate101 as having an appeal across generation, there are also games available for younger and older audiences.

These MMO and MMORPG games provide specialization and activity for all players. But it’s most beneficial for those living alone looking for ways to socialize with others. It provides caregivers, both parents and grand-parents with a tool that can unite adults and kids with a common interest.

We love both these games. My son and I have been playing Wizard101 together for years. And with the release of Pirate101, we play as a family with Dad as well. It’s great to see AARP recommending our favorite game too.

News From The Portal

We’ve Been Battling

We haven’t had too many game updates here lately. Why? Well some of the reason is a busy life recently in the real world, but some has been because we’ve been working on leveling up our secondary pirates.

Our main or favorite pirates have been resting on the beach or making repairs to their ships. While our other pirates have been doing battle around the spiral. I’ve made a few tweaks to the game guides based on experiences of the different pirate classes. But those changes have been minimal.

In the meantime, we hope you’ve been able to catch up on the news from One-Eyed Jack that we’ve shared. Did you get your free gifts? Were you able to acquire one of the Spring Pets? I hope so!

Stay tuned, we’re still adding new info here and there. When we add something significant, we’ll post it right up front for all to see.
